We are so pleased that you are interested in fundraising in support of CDKL5 Canada! Hosting your own fundraising event is a great way to help raise funds for research, raise awareness and provide support. We can’t do this without you. It doesn’t matter if you raise a little or a lot, every dollar counts!

We ask that you review our tips below for how to host a successful event and then complete our Fundraising Agreement Form. This form is intended to protect the integrity of our charity and to ensure that there is no misunderstanding about what type of support CDKL5 Canada can/cannot provide for your event. We want to make sure you have all the tools required to make your event a huge success!

 

How to Host a Successful Fundraising Event

First you need to decide what type of fundraising event you would like to host. You can host a Facebook fundraiser, where everything takes place online. Just simply visit our CDKL5 Canada Facebook page and clicking on the “Create Fundraiser” tab. There you can name your fundraiser, add a picture, set your fundraising goal, and determine the end date for your fundraiser. Remember all donations will receive a charitable tax receipt!

Or you can host a live fundraising event which could include one or more of the suggestions below, or come up with something completely unique.

  • Silent Auction

  • Music Concert

Planning your Event:

  • Talk to community members to see if there is interest in supporting your event
  • Enlist support from friends and/or family
  • Pick a venue and a date
    Set a realistic budget and fundraising goal for your event
  • Determine event requirements (supplies, volunteers, etc.)
  • If necessary, form a committee to help with event planning
  • Create a checklist & binder of all items required (sponsors contact list, schedule of event, medical requirements, medical requirements, waiver forms, responsibilities, supplies required, prizes, donations, volunteers, decorations, pledge forms, entry forms, cash boxes, etc.)

Complete the Fundraising Agreement Form

Promoting your Event:

  • Flyers or posters can be put up in local businesses such as retail stores, restaurants, etc.
  • Posting the event on your municipality event calendar, having it added to the CDKL5 Canada website, or other local resources
  • Community bulletin boards located in libraries, community centres, schools, etc.
  • Contact your local newspaper or online editorial to write a story about your event, involvement in the charity
  • Promoting it social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
  • Corporate Matching: Talk to your boss at work or to your HR department about Corporate Matching. It is a great way to get your community involved and double your dollars!

Event Planning:

  • Create a checklist to list all items needed to be completed in advance and one for the day of (sponsor check list, schedule of events, lottery license, waiver forms, responsibilities, supplies, signage, decorations, tables & chairs, food, entry forms, etc.)
  • Visit the venue to determine your event set up and any additional requirements (table placement, garbage, bathrooms, electrical outlets, wifi, etc.)
    Contact your volunteers in advance with any instructions, etc.
  • Recognition and Thank You

It is important that you share the success of your event with your local community and with CDKL5 supporters. Please ensure that you recognize and acknowledge everyone who helped you plan and support your event so they will be sure to support you again in the future!
